Chippewa National Forest

Our interactions and activities in the Framework:

The Chippewa National Forest is engaging in many activities within the Northwoods Climate Change Response Framework, including the Ecosystem Vulnerability Assessment and Synthesis for northern Minnesota forests and the Science Team that is cataloging climate-related research projects in the state.   The vulnerability assessment may lead to future activities, such as preparing a climate change adaptation strategy and providing further education opportunties for National Forest staff.

Our broader climate change activities and perspectives:

The Chippewa National Forest is engaged in several climate change activities, as guided by the US Forest Service Climate Change Roadmap and Scorecard.  For example, the Chippewa has initiated efforts on employee education, designated a climate change coordinator, and engaged research and management partners on the issue of climate change.  Other efforts include improving the sustainability of National Forest operations, and forming an internal team to focus on climate change issues.   The Chippewa is also engaged in a new effort with the Northern Research Station and Portland State University to conduct LANDIS modeling on the forested landscape in north-central MN to explore how climate change and other factors may shape forests in the future.
