Kristen is interested in how human communities interact with ecological systems, and how improved science synthesis and science communication can help to inform sustainable ecosystem management. This broad interest has led to her current work in the field of climate change, ecosystem effects, and management response.
She supports NIACS and the USDA Northern Forests Climate Hub in helping natural resource professionals integrate climate change considerations into management planning and decision-making. This involves partnering with Regional Climate Hubs, agencies, universities, and other public and private organizations to hold specialized training on climate change adaptation and to develop resources that land managers can use. Kristen often works with groups outside of the Midwest and Northeast region. She also contributes videos and other multimedia examples of on-the-ground climate change adaptation to NIACS-supported websites like the Climate Change Resource Center and the Climate Change Response Framework.
Kristen is a member of the American Society of Adaptation Professionals.
